Title: Correction to Basic ATC Training Resource
Post by: Todd Harrell on February 18, 2011, 04:56:07 PM: I don't know if this the proper place to post this, so I apologize in advance if it isn't.

I am a new VATUSA member who is just beginning my training. I discovered an error in the Basic ATC training resource, specifically the wind description (subsection e) under the METAR section in the chapter on weather. The second sentence reads "The first three digits indicate the direction the wind is blowing."
That sentence should read "The first three digits indicate the direction FROM WHICH the wind is blowing." That's a big difference (180 degrees to be exact!).

I confirmed this in the Jeppesen IFR/Commercial Pilot Training Manual (p. 9-59)

Just thought the powers that be would like to know.

This is a great forum and I'm excited to get started!

Tom there is also quite a few. Other things that are out of date and the s1 and s2 level.

Holdshort should be line up and wait

Take off/ landing clearedAnce is wrong

Taxi instructions.

I'm sure there are others.

I hope you mean "taxi into position and hold" should be "line up and wait", there is nothing wrong with "hold short."

Post by: Marcus Becker on March 15, 2011, 01:28:33 PM: Most of the font assignments aren't working properly and it makes the TRC incredibly hard to read. Especially for new students who need to decipher the material to be learned and codes to set fonts and colors.

Under the S1 material "Issuing Taxi Instructions", this material still displays the old taxi phraseology.

I'm working through some of the font issues but it's tedious and I'll get to it as I can.

EDIT: I think I managed to get all the corrections in the S1 material, but I was a bit cross-eyed at the end. Please advise if there are any remaining problems. I know the "TIPH" reference still remains in the "next" and "previous" links, but I can't fix those at the moment.
