Over the past few weeks, I've started to mess around with my sector files. I know to edit them, and everything but where does the data come from? I know that it gets released, but where does it get released?

It comes from numerous sources, many of which depend on the ARTCC. Some include enroute/Aerodome charts, FAA sources, FOIA requests, sites like airnav...depends on what resources you have access to and/or how much work you are willing to put into getting and converting various data formats.
