Post by: Dillon Jacobs on November 25, 2012, 09:18:43 AM
Hello i'm looking for a good home where I can get the training I need to become a successful controller. I live in the Central time zone but I am willing to control anywhere in the United States. Please leave a reply if interested

Welcome, Dillon!

I'm pretty sure every ARTCC would be happy to have you.  Your best bet is to do a little homework to see which ARTCC might be the best fit for you.  Though we all certify controllers to the same standard, every training program has its own personality.  Some require a bit more self-study, others are more hands on.  The same can be said for other facets of the ARTCC -- some have more events than others, some have more get-togethers than others, some have more personality than others.  Some have fewer controllers, and could probably use the help more.   Your best bet is to check out each ARTCC's website (links are at the bottom of the VATUSA home page) and have a look at their training programs, policies, rosters, forums (most ARTCCs' forums have a controllers-only section that you won't be able to see, so don't be alarmed if there's not a lot on their forums; the public stuff usually has far less content, and the fun stuff is usually in the controllers-only section  ), etc.  Once you narrow it down to a few that you might be interested in, feel free to email the ATM and/or any of the other staff to get whatever additional information you'd like to help you make an informed decision.

Good luck, and welcome to the controlling side.

Howdy Dillon,

I am the Training Administrator at the Houston ARTCC (ZHU) and we are located in your time zone. We offer several airports in the airspace that receive regular traffic like: Austin, San Antonio, New Orleans and of course Houston to name a few. If you have any questions about ZHU, feel free to contact me at ta@zhuartcc.org or our ATM, Kevin, at atm@zhuartcc.org.

Good luck in your ARTCC hunt!
