Title: [OCT 6 2300-0300Z] Hurricane Showdown
Post by: Josh Glottmann on October 05, 2016, 09:00:17 AM
The Hurricane Showdown is taking place on October 6th from 2300-0300Z (1900-2300 EDT).
This spontaneous event is unlike no other. Expect 50+ knot winds, IMC, and severe turbulence.

Here are some useful resources for flying into Miami:
Pilot Tips (http://www.zmaartcc.net/wp/pilots/tips-to-flying-in-miami)
Pilot FAQ (http://www.zmaartcc.net/wp/pilots/pilot-faq)
Airport Information and Charts (http://www.zmaartcc.net/wp/pilots/charts)
Scenery and Pilot Downloads (http://www.zmaartcc.net/wp/pilots/pilot-downloads)
Real World Routes (http://flightaware.com/analysis/route.rvt?)
Please file valid routes which include SIDs and STARs (it makes our controllers' jobs easier).

It is recommended you bring umbrellas and wind breakers!
Feel free to leave feedback (http://www.zmaartcc.net/wp/pilots/leave-feedback) after the event if you enjoyed it.

As many of our controllers are based in Miami, there is a high likelihood that some will lose internet access. We apologize in advance if that happens, but we cannot guarantee complete staffing for that reason.

On behalf of ZMA, we apologize for having to close much sooner than anticipated. A personal issue came up mid-event with one of our controllers and he had to get off which caused center to unexpectedly get overloaded which in turn caused everyone else to get overloaded.

Once again, we apologize.
