General Discussion / Re: Holding PTT Switch Down Long Enough
« on: November 26, 2019, 12:04:17 PM »
Three full seconds is most certainly a bit of overkill.  With the old voice system it didn't matter since simultaneous transmissions would simply merge, and the next one would be heard over the extraneous dead-air (or, really, it wouldn't be, because it would still be buffering with that insipid delay, lol).  But a "quick three-count" is probably okay.  If anything, you get that 0.1 seconds of block tone as the two transmissions overlap slightly, which I personally find kind of badass.

You guys really brought out an all-star cast tonight.  Great job.  My own sim crashed out enroute, but, I stream-hopped the rest of the night and heard nothing but truly outstanding service.

Great advice, Shane.  In the transportation shop I used to work at, we trained our drivers to mentally add the word "click" to the beginning and end of their message while keying and unkeying.  "(click) 315 to base, Silver Spring tally 36, 8 minutes late. (click)"

General Discussion / Re: New World Series Event
« on: September 09, 2019, 05:35:35 PM »
That one's going to be a bit harder because we won't know until very close to the event which two teams will be involved in the World Series, and, we need to coordinate with the ARTCCs which host those areas & hope they can pull the necessary staffing together to pull it off.  So, it will be a tough one to wrangle together, but, not impossible.

P.S. I'm a fan of the Class D events for Wisconsin you've been doing within Chicago Center.  I like the opportunity to fly GA to the locations less traveled on the network.
Sadly I had to work this past Saturday, but, I wanted to jump in & "second" this last bit!

Glad to hear it!  Two people in succession keyed up and said "WWOOOWWWW" as though they'd heard me say something they thought was rude.  Maybe they were reacting to something on text that I didn't see.  Pleased to know I was just being paranoid!

If Benjamin Matthews is reading this, or if someone reads this that can pass the message:

While I was flying in the Lake Erie area tonight, I made a remark over my livestream that seemed like it drew a reaction over the ATC frequency.  I might be just being paranoid about a coincidence, but, if my remark did come over the channel somehow, I just wanted to apologize.  I was attempting to express amusement about the situation that occurred, but I'm sure that if it did come over the channel, out of context it probably sounded like I was annoyed or rude or both.  I was surely NOT annoyed, but if I was rude, it was completely unintentional and I'm very sorry if it was taken that way.

Thanks for the great service, and if I did owe you that apology, I hope it's accepted.

General Discussion / Re: Ground Control (View-Only) via iPad

If it would require you to make a separate connection to VATSIM in order to use it, it would be against the Code of Conduct to use it at the same time as your ATC or pilot client.

My sincerest apologies to all of the controllers who worked the event tonight.  i suffered a very unfortunate glitch with "swift" and wound up spamming the Guard channel repeatedly until I figured out what was going on.

At one point I recieved a PM from a friend who was online as a pilot.  When I responded, that response went over COM2 for some inexplicable reason.  Unfortunately, it was set on 121.5.  All of the ensuing PMs that I then got from controllers & a SUP, I was able to answer via PM -- but when I tried typing back to my pilot friend it just went over COM2.  Once I finally figured it out I (a) tuned COM2 to another frequency and (b) gave up trying to PM my friend back.

Proof is here if you don't believe me:

Apologies again.  I know it was disruptive, and I know I wound up looking like an idiot.

General Discussion / Re: Most scenic US flights?
« on: May 10, 2019, 01:10:19 PM »
Let's answer that question with a question: How daring do you want to be?
As daring as I can given the takeoff and landing performance limitations of a Beech Baron.

Thanks for the recommendations, Brad.  The Intergalactic Spaceport sounds interesting, as well!

General Discussion / Most scenic US flights?
« on: May 10, 2019, 06:39:38 AM »
ZSE's "Fly the Gorge" event a couple weeks ago got me thinking -- where are some other really scenic flights one can make in the US?  Obviously there's the Grand Canyon, the Manhattan skyline, the various resort airports around Colorado, the Florida Keys -- maybe around Mount Rainier, too -- what are some other "pretty" US flights you've done that you recommend?

News / Re: A discussion on voice CTAF

With Voice CTAF, will we be able to simulate real world ops like shooting a lightning fast straight-in approach to a packed field while not making radio calls? ;D :P
You can do that now... ;-)

I wonder if perhaps coordinating with the VP of Supervisors, to make sure you have some support by way of online SUPs who can proactively tackle some of the separation & conflict alert issues, would be fruitful.
