Position Posting – Training Administrator

Salt Lake City Virtual ARTCC
 

Purpose

ZLC is currently seeking a Training Administrator who will provide compelling training capability and effective management and leadership of the ZLC ATC training program.

 

Key Accountabilities

●      Report to Air Traffic Manager and VATUSA Division Training Manager

●      Manage and lead the training program to make it effective and efficient for all ARTCC controllers

●      Maintain an adequate staff of instructors and mentors to meet ARTCC training needs

●      Update and maintain training website material and certification system

●      Develop and implement training policies, SOPs, and more

●      Oversee and manage student assignments to training staff

●      Perform duties as a staff Instructor

●      Maintain a high online presence

●      Other duties as assigned by ATM/DATM/VATUSA Division Training Manager

●      Function as an Administrator

 

Requirements

●      C1 rating or higher

●      Active member on the network in good standing without recent disciplinary history

●      Capable of working well in team-oriented environment

●      Strong knowledge of VATSIM/US ATC system

●      Strong knowledge of FAA Order 7110.65

●      Excellent written and oral communication skills

●      Able to work with students in a calm and respectful manner

●      Access to and strong ability with Google Drive, Dropbox, Microsoft Office suite, including PowerPoint and Word



Preferred Skills


●      Prior ATC Mentor/Instructor experience

●      Teaching/Education experience (on or off VATSIM)

●      Leadership, managerial, or supervisory experience

●      Real world aviation/pilot experience

●      Familiarity with the Salt Lake City Virtual ARTCC training program/system



How to Apply

Interested candidates should be aware that this is a senior level administrative position and not for the inexperienced. The workload is considerable and should not be taken lightly. The incumbent should expect to dedicate between 6 and 8 hours weekly to ARTCC business.  Only those who understand the requirements and can make the appropriate commitment should consider applying. Candidates can expect an initial evaluation of their application after which they may be contacted for a comprehensive interview.

Purpose:

Salt Lake City is looking for a motivated individual that possesses a high degree of energy and commitment to serve as the Deputy Air Traffic Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reports to the Air Traffic Manager.
  • Assists in management of ATC Roster, permissions and access, Discord administration, and other general administrative tasks associated with ATC organization.
  • Assists in development of ARTCC SOPs, LOAs, Policies, and more.
  • Maintains a high online presence and community presence.
  • Assists the ATM in duties, when required.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Requirements:

  • CURRENTLY:
    • Holds a VATSIM C1 rating or higher without a significant disciplinary record.
    • Understands this position requires a significant time commitment (usually 1-2hrs a day; sometimes more, sometimes less)
    • Demonstrates the qualities of understanding, patience, restraint, and professionalism.
    • Strengthens others through consistent feedback while driving productivity and morale.
    • Holds self and others accountable to high performance standards while providing pilots with memorable experiences.
    • Not only accepts feedback and constructive criticism, but desires it.

  • WILL:
    • Demonstrate, in a timely-manner, an expert-level proficiency of the Salt Lake City policies, procedures, airspace, & directives.
    • Support the Salt Lake City ARTCC’s mission of providing realistic air traffic control environments to ATC and services to pilots.
    • Continuously meet all activity requirements as outlined in ZLC ARTCC Policy Manual, as appropriate.
    • Serve as a leader to coach and motivate members while upholding a culture that builds exceptional internal and external experiences for members and pilots.
    • Ensure that Salt Lake City is in compliance with all VATSIM and VATUSA policies & directives; This also includes real world ICAO and FAA policies, directives, regulations, etc… when applicable.
    • Support and participate in initiatives that give back to the VATSIM community.
    • Attend meetings when required by management.
    • Support the recruitment, retention, and development of a diverse range of talented people.
    • Assume the duties of the ATM when they are not available.
    • Maintain an active online presence on the VATSIM server and Salt Lake City ARTCC Discord (respond quickly and professionally to communications on a regular basis).
    • Monitor and respond to VATSIM registered and ZLC Staff email at least once every 24hrs.
    • Take lead as project manager for any project within ZLC, when required.
    • Monitor the daily activities of the ARTCC and be ready to assume any staff responsibility/project at a given moment.

Preferred:

  • Currently demonstrates items in the “Requirements>Will” section of this posting.
  • Has attended VATUSA professionalism meetings.
  • Prior ATC Mentor/Instructor experience.
  • Teaching/Education experience (on &/or off VATSIM).
  • Leadership, managerial, or supervisory experience (real world & VATSIM).
  • Real world aviation/ATC/Pilot experience.

Come join the ZLC crew as we feature the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport. With terrain to the south and east, Bozeman provides a challenging approach for VFR and IFR arrivals (Start practicing your DME arcs!) We will be have Boise running as well, so feel free to enjoy the services along the way. With close to 9000 feet of runway, the mighty Cessna to the biggest Boeing are always welcome. Scenery is available through ORBX, but is never required. The event will kick off August 16th around 2359Z and will last four hours. We hope to see y'all there!

I want to thank everybody and all controllers who helped contribute to this successful event! We had 208 aircraft seen in both S56 and ZLC. Special thanks to Denver, Oakland, LA, and our friends in Canada for helping offer support. To the 200 plus pilots who decided to visit, we thank you. Feel free to check this if you're interested.

Come join the Salt Lake Center crew Wednesday July 12th, as we host another event at our home airport, Salt Lake City International! Located alongside the Wasatch mountain range, Salt Lake City is home of Delta Air Lines and offers fantastic views throughout the region. IFR and VFR welcomed as always. Scenery is available from Pacific Island Sim, but as always it's never required. The event will kick off at 2359Z and last for 4 hours. Come join the fun, we hope to see you there!

Come join Salt Lake ARTCC Thursday the 13th as staff Boise Air Terminal! The Boise airport has more commercial passenger operations than all other Idaho airports combined! With multiple air carriers, ample GA operations, and a military operation on site, the Boise airport has something for everybody! Rapidly rising terrain to the north makes this airport a challenge for both VFR and IFR traffic. The Boise are terminal will be fully staffed including Big Sky approach and Salt Lake Center from 2359Z-0400Z.
