Good luck. Embrace the burden of leadership.  Support your staff, Be the first one in the door, and the last one out, Never pass the buck, and remember your staff is a direct reflection of your leadership.  Keep up the good work brother.

What an amazing night of flying in Providence.  All of the controllers we spoke with did an amazing job, the traffic flow was about as steady as you can get while accommodating all your traffic as well as a flight of 6.  We had a great time, and we couldn't do it with out your help.  Expect great feedback Boston, you guys deserved it.  10/10 would fly again.

Thanks for all the help

Brighton, Don, Kosmo thanks for the input.

So who's regulations take precedent. VATSIM's or VATUSA's in the grand spectrum of things.

Section 5.1  states An important objective of this policy is to make it easier to become a controller by removing VATSIM excessive restrictions and unnecessary local rules without adversely affecting controller standards.

I spent 2 months trying to get approved as a visitor in Honolulu.  Due to some BS made up rule at the time by the acting ATM who wasn't accepting visitors at the time, who sat on his rear end for 2 months telling me he would get to it.  I emailed him once a week until he finally stepped down, and Toby took over, Toby was in charge for about 10 seconds before he got me added.

So guess my question is who's rules supersede who's.  Does VATSIM policy supersede VATNA or VATUSA policy?

General Discussion / VATSIM Global Ratings Policy Chapter 5 sub section 4

"5.1   An important objective of this policy is to make it easier to become a controller by removing VATSIM excessive restrictions and unnecessary local rules without adversely affecting controller standards.

5.2   On-line operations require a controller to be flexible and versatile therefore local rules must be carefully considered to ensure that they do not impair these important on-line qualities.

5.3   Notwithstanding paragraphs 5.1 and 5.2, it is acceptable for Divisions to introduce Standard Operating Procedures to provide guidance to Controllers in respect of local arrangements such as runway configurations, clearance altitudes, handoff procedures etc. Such SOPs must be approved by the Division Director and must be published on Division/Facility websites for all controllers and pilots to read.

5.4   Local rules cannot restrict who can provide ATC services on any position that is not approved as Designated Airspace in accordance with Paragraph 6 of this policy for members rated S2 or higher.

5.5   Local rules cannot provide restrictions that would be in contravention of this policy."

I am visitor in 2 other ARTCC's one of which was as easy as sending a message to the ATM and being accepted.....the other took me like 2 months to get a visitor rating, and I only applied to control one minor class delta airport I enjoy.

The way I read the GRP Chapter 5 Sub section 4 is that any S2 or higher can control any minor field, as long as it doesn't violate anything in chapter 6

Can someone clarify this if I am reading it wrong.

Thanks to all the pilots that came out to fly.  Was a great event to control.

Amen brother!

Hopefully VATSIM can clarify this in their next edition of the COC.  Not gripping or complaining, just stating that it could be worded a little better to avoid confusion, and misinterpretation.

Thanks for all the input.  Keep up with the good work staff.

Thanks for what you do.

Section B Subsection 3

A pilot must at all times check for appropriate air traffic control coverage for the airspace he is crossing at any given time. If there is an appropriate air traffic controller available or upon request to make contact with an appropriate air traffic controller, then the pilot should immediately contact such controller.

I don't see anything about transponders in B-3

So is this a written policy, or just something someone said one time, and if it is policy can you show me where you found it? I would like to take a gander.

That is kind of how I look at it too Mr. Kosmoski.

I sure would appreciate some input from the VATUSA team.

General Discussion / Clarification on VATSIM COC Section B Sub Section 4
« on: August 17, 2017, 12:54:28 PM »
Unlike most vatsim pilots who prefer IFR commercial traffic a majority of the flying I do on the network is VFR in GA aircraft with no flight following.

I need some clarification on the VATSIM COC Section B Sub Section 4.

B. Pilot's Conduct
4.  Except while on the ground prior to making initial contact with ATC or upon request of ATC, a pilot should not squawk standby. A pilot should not squawk standby while flying to his destination, even when there is no appropriate Enroute air traffic control available.

The way I read this as it is written that a GA pilot flying VFR in the class G/E airspace with negative flight following can be on the squawk code 1200 MODE A, and not be breaking the rules as long as he is  (A. Not IFR.  B. Not receiving flight following. C. Clear of the Mode C veil at any class bravo airspace D. Clear of any controlled airspace DELTA/CHARLIE.)

That being said I don't have enough fingers and toes to count the times I have been VFR in the Class G or E airspace squawking 1200 MODE A and had Approach/Center controllers ding dong me with a contact me telling me I need to be MODE C.

Can a brother get some clarification.  Am I right, or does the phraseology of the VATSIM COC need to be changed?

Questions, Comments, Gripes and Complaints are welcome.

**DISCLAIMER: Minimum bottle to throttle time 8 hours.**

Good thing there is no throttle in the Tower Cab.  I'll ensure my liver is thoroughly pickled before I get there.

my questions have been answered. someone should make a scenry that allows for the NOTAM to be fully valid in my opinion. :p

If you read the post I made in the thread earlier, there is an amazing freeware scenery available all you had to do was click the link and register, then search for Oshkosh scenery.

Simple solution to "Rock your wings"....Put it in the ATIS they should be pulling before FISK "Rock your wings = IDENT"

There is a really good marked scenery for Oshkosh with runway color markings here.  You have to register but it is free to download.

Hope that helps someone
