Applications are now being accepted for the position of Data Services Manager for VATUSA.

Reports to: VATUSA Support Manager, VATUSA4
Application Deadline: June 18 2023 2359z

Key Responsibilities:
* Functions as an interactive VATUSA staff member and attends meetings as necessary
* Manages and develops the VATUSA information technology platform including website, API, email server, Discord, TeamSpeak, and other services as assigned
* Maintains and develops the VATUSA server architecture
* Maintains policy manuals and documentation regarding the use of the API and other related data services
* Ensures appropriate data security procedures and policies are in place at both the VATUSA and sub-divisional level
* Commits to routinely backing up crucial VATUSA data
* Complies with data erasure requests as assigned by the Division Director or VATSIM management staff
* Manages the VATUSA web team
* Provides regular and necessary maintenance to the VATUSA information technology platform
* Guides and mentors the ARTCC Webmasters as required

Core Requirements:
* Active member of the network in good standing for at least 12 months
* Considerable experience and success in the development of web related services
* Able to effectively lead in a team environment
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
* No significant disciplinary record or history of unprofessional behavior
* Intimate knowledge of common programming languages, including PHP and JavaScript
* A basic understanding of Docker, Kubernetes, Moodle, and SMF
* Able to adapt to a constantly changing tech environment
* Knowledge of administering a MySQL database server
* Knowledge of administering an Ubuntu Linux server

Desired Skills and Capabilities:

* Demonstrated experience with ARTCC operations
* Demonstrated project management and planning skills
* Demonstrated possession and utilization of a high degree of energy, commitment and dedication
* Demonstrated qualities of understanding, patience and maturity
* Demonstrated ability to create high quality technical products

I am here to officially announce the appointment of a new Staff Development Manager (VATUSA7).

It is my distinct pleasure to welcome Jared West as our newest member of HQ as he joins us as VATUSA7.

Jared comes to us from ZDC where he has been serving as the ATM for the past 2 years, and as the TA and FE previously.

Everyone please help me welcome Jared to the team!

Applications are now being accepted for the position of Division Staff Development Manager for VATUSA.

Reports to: VATUSA Deputy Director of Support Services, VATUSA4
Application Deadline: Mar 6, 2023 23:59z

To be effective, the successful candidate must devote a considerable amount of time to the position. VATUSA Staff Members must spend 9 hours minimum per calendar quarter connected to the live network in any capacity as a Pilot, Controller, Mentor, Instructor, or Supervisor. Candidates must commit to devoting the time required. Only those who fully understand and meet the requirements and will make the appropriate commitment should apply. Candidates can expect an initial evaluation of their application after which they may be contacted for a comprehensive interview.

Main responsibilities:

  • Function as an interactive VATUSA staff member and attend meetings as necessary
  • Work closely with VATUSA staff to enhance current practices and policies to best serve the division
  • Create custom staff manuals for each ARTCC staff position
  • Create a division staff manual for VATUSA staff
  • Evaluate ARTCC staff performance and provide feedback when necessary
  • Conduct seminars, workshops, and training sessions to further mentor and train staff members
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by VATUSA4

Requirements for the role:
  • Active member of the network in good standing for at least 12 months
  • Able to work in a team environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • No significant disciplinary record or history of unprofessional behavior
  • Past or current ATM/DATM experience
  • Desire and commitment to improve the VATUSA division

Preferred qualifications for this role:
  • Demonstrated exceptional growth in past staff positions
  • Demonstrated possession and utilization of a high degree of energy, commitment and dedication
  • Demonstrated qualities of understanding, patience and maturity
  • Demonstrated ability to create high quality written products

This is a VATUSA Divisional Staff role and is not entry-level. The SDM will be expected to attend monthly VATUSA meetings alongside maintaining their own agenda and pace of work. The SDM will be required to interact with every facility within VATUSA and should be familiar to the facility and division structure.

ZMA is seeking a qualified individual to fill the role of TAZMA is seeking a qualified individual to fill the role of TA. This individual should be passionate about training, policy, and VATSIM as a whole. The best qualified individual will display a strong understanding of ATC and the NAS, and be able to develop a strong training program.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversees, develops, and manages the ZMA ARTCC Training Department.
Reports directly to the ZMA ARTCC Air Traffic Manager (ATM), Deputy Air Traffic Manager (DATM), and VATUSA Training Director (VATUSA3).
Hires facility instructors and mentors, for the purpose of broadening the ARTCC’s training capacity, in consultation with the ZMA ATM and DATM.
Develops scenario and training files for usage on Tower Trainer as well as Euroscope
Administers Over-the-Shoulder (OTS) Examinations on Sweatbox as well as live examinations on the VATSIM Network.
Trains and evaluates members of varying skill levels and controller ratings for the purpose of expanding the ARTCC's controller base.
Develop training policies, materials, and procedures for ZMA.
Assists in VATUSA Southern Region Initiatives.
Other duties as assigned by the ZMA ATM, DATM, and/or VATUSA3.

Requirements:

At least a C1 rating.
Have previous training staff experience.
Have no history of disciplinary or unprofessional conduct.
Be capable of working well in a team-oriented environment.
Have a strong knowledge of the National Airspace System, as well as US terminology, phraseology, and US ATC systems.
Comprehensive understanding of the VATSIM Global Ratings Policy and how it applies to the development of the ZMA ARTCC Training Department.
Have excellent written and oral communication skills in the English Language.
Have the ability to create professional-looking documents using Microsoft Word or similar software.

Preferred Skills:

Supervisory, training, or management experience either on VATSIM or in your professional life.
Previous or current ARTCC Senior Staff experience.
Instructor or Mentor experience on VATSIM.
Real-World ATC or flying experience.
Knowledge of Aircraft Situation Editor, TWRTrainer, ACSIM, and their associated files; training can be provided.
A true passion and joy for teaching others and helping our members achieve greater heights in their VATSIM controlling experience.
Interested candidates should be aware that this is not an entry-level position. The workload of this position is not to be taken lightly. Only those who understand the requirements and can make the appropriate time commitment should consider applying for this position.

Firstly I would like to thank Gerardo for his time and commitment to the ZMA ARTCC and the events department. You truly turned the department around and you were a fantastic Events Coordinator. Maybe one day you'll make your return!

Second! I'd like to introduce ZMAs Interim EC Patrick Gligo!. Patrick will be working closely with our newly appointed AEC Nicholas Camperos as leaders of ZMAs new events team.

Miami is looking for a new Events Coordinator to join the staff!

The Events Coordinator is key to connecting pilots and controllers. We're looking for someone who is motivated, experienced, hardworking, and willing to take on new challenges.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops and plans events promoting ZMA/ZMO airspace (including developing graphics and promoting events)
- Coordinates controller event participation
- Coordinates events with neighboring facilities
- Coordinates support for events at neighboring facilities
- Stays up to date with VATUSA, VATSIM, and virtual airline events
- Serves as liaison to virtual airlines and other pilot organizations
- Maintains an active presence within the facility and on the VATSIM network
- Other duties as required

Required Qualifications
- Be an active member of the VATSIM network in good standing with no significant derogatory marks
- Currently hold a rating of Student (S3) or higher
- Capable of working well in a team-oriented environment
- Excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
-Previous or current ARTCC staff experience
-Real world aviation experience
-Prior events planning experience
-Photoshop skills for banner making

This position requires a significant commitment to ZMA and VATSIM. Role and responsibilities may change as needed.

ZMA is in search of a DATM! The DATM assists the ATM in the day-to-day management and leadership of the ARTCC. We're searching for someone motivated, active, and experienced to fill the role.

Key Responsibilities
- Reports to the Air Traffic Manager
- Assists in management of ATC Roster, permissions and access, Discord and Teamspeak administration, and other general administrative tasks associated with ATC organization
- Assists in development of ARTCC SOPs, LOAs, Policies, and more
- Maintains a high online presence
- Completes other duties as assigned by ATM

Requirements
- C1 rating or higher
- Active VATSIM member in good standing and with a clean history
- Capable of working well in team-oriented environment
- Strong knowledge of VATSIM/US ATC system
- Strong knowledge of FAA Order 7110.65
- Excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred Skills
- Prior ATC Mentor/Instructor experience
- Teaching/Education experience (on or off VATSIM)
- Leadership, managerial, or supervisory experience
- Real world aviation/pilot experience
- Familiarity with the Miami ARTCC ATC training program, policies, etc.
- Demonstrates the qualities of understanding, patience, maturity, and when necessary, restraint
