So, what i do is when receiving a clearance. i read back and end with my callsign. eg. CENTER SAYS "DAL 1207, climb maintain 5000, turn left to heading 350 deg". I respond... CLICK  "Roger, Climb maintain 5000, turn right 350 DAL 1207"....UNCLICK. As soon as i unclick., Center is calling UAL 2345, climb ......DAH DAH DAH  that tells me he heard and understands....If i wait 3 seconds after i announce my callsign to release the transmit button.... I will be gettin some angry eyes from the approach controller.

i wish i could get my simulator friends to stop using MSFS automated ATC. They are always complaining the automated system tells them to expedite climbs, vectors them to close the the approach, etc. Who wants to taxi out via a diagram on the taxiways? VATSIM controllers can see the density of aircraft flowing to the airports, and can extend legs, slow aircraft down, etc. This system combined with knowledgeable pilot types makes a realistic real time experience for us Flt Sim users

This sounds like a great website. Can i upload video's of landings, etc? I have created video's of how to plan a flight, load the FMC, but am limited to Youtube. This would be a good forum for running video's with sound, for training purposes. To find topics, like how to use the FMC, or flight planning. One must search youtube. A one stop shop might be the answer.

Clifford, the best way to learn is to listen in on the communications at your nearest Class B airport. You can listen in to gnd control and hear taxi instructions. There are plenty of software packages out there you can use to load the taxi charts, and follow along at the gnd controller gives taxi instructions. Next thing is to  plan a few cross country flights between class D airports, these are smaller airports and many don't require clearance delivery.

Get your feet wet. Just tell the controller your new to this and he can issue progressive taxi instructions. If it all goes South, just say...see you later, and disconnect, wait a few days, and try it again. Good Luck....

Flew the BOS FNO on Fri night. What an experience and how everyone worked together to get into KBOS. However,

While being vectored to ROBUC, in heavy storms, the ZIBO MOD B737 lost airspeed and lost control. I got my finger on the PAUSE button and had to disconnect...

Better lucknext time...

One thing i have noticed.... Is the text ATIS and the Verbal ATIS from airports is usually different. The written could be info V and the verbal is saying INFO C... Has anyone addressed this on X Plane?

Thanks

General Discussion / Intercepting GS/ Prior to LOC on ILS Approaches.
« on: November 12, 2018, 10:56:56 AM »
Hello All,

Many times we are vectored in close to the Final Approach fix to help traffic flow to an airport, and in doing so, fly above the GS. Last night while vectored to the Final of 24R CYYZ, I was vectored into the ILS LOC and when i realized i was high on the approach, 'i asked if i could descend below the 3000' alt, due to the fact, I was high on the GS and the LOC had not centered". The Controller stated i was cleared for approach, and i could descend. I remarked, i like to be on the LOC prior to descending down the GS, specially if the MSA is just about the same Altitude as the GS intercept Alt.

I wasn't cleared for a Visual Approach and wasnt issued the typical.....maintain 3000' till established on the LOC. I was just issue a turn to 340 deg intercept the LOC, cleared for approach 24R....So, I dont really know the procedure.....

My experience back in the Big BLue Ball days was not to start descent on the GS until established on the LOC. In the B727 Days, the auto pilot would not be able to capture the GS from above, they had the GS MAN, which would dive down, remember, we arent supposed to push the airplane over and have the passengers drinks disturbed.

Anyway, Did I do the right thing? I am not for the deep dive to GS capture guy and would certainly be ok to be vectored outside the marker and told Keep My SPEED up...

I tried looking for FARs on this or AC's but no joy

Thanks
Tom

Events / Re: ILS 27L alignment problems
« on: November 02, 2018, 08:56:55 PM »
Great Event, but the same ole problem with X Plane when strong crosswinds on runways sharing the same front and back course freq.

The 27L and 09R share the same frequency, so on approach, tuned to 109.3 the GS / LOC switches from 27L ident I-GLC to the 9R I-PHL.

So, after a nice flight up from KMIA, the whole flight comes unraveled when the GS/LOC switches over during approach!

No Worries with a visual que to the runway, but it throws  you a curve right when your intercepting LOC / GS and configuring for landing, and comm with multiple sectors....

You can select the disable downwind runway in the settings box on the Map Screen, and....you got it...it removes the 27L LOC due to a cross wind....  Info "I" Special wind 160/8 G 16......

 :(

Another wonderful event, my comment is,,, during the last few events, the traffic flow is very organized, I'm finding it easier to transition from STAR to Final Approach course, with increased speed, no problem. Maybe because we the pilots are using and interpreting STARs and getting more clearances to fly these into busy terminal areas.Anyway, With an additional screen that is dedicated to VATSIM radar... It's a site to see the traffic flow 100 miles out to LAX..

One thing...When i tune in LAX ATIS, the text portion differs from the verbal portion. Maybe a glitch with XPLANE.
