Events / [08/15/20 2300-0300z] MEM ATL Crossfire
« on: May 25, 2020, 11:58:30 am »
It's going to get hot and heavy in the middle of the summer between the big M and Atlanta. Get your flying suits on, it's time for a crossfire. (KMEM & KATL 2300-0300z 8/15/20). More later.

I do have a question:

Why is this being advertised here on VATUSA, instead of VATSIM-UK?

Or is it some kind of crossfire thing, like maybe EGBB to KJFK or something?

 ;)

Ha! I love sarcasm!

We here at ZTL have undergone the confusion for too long. Yes, there is a Birmingham that isn't in Europe. It's not in the UK. It's in the US of A baby. So to celebrate our great city in our great country, far away from the other Birmingham, we are lighting up Birmingham. Not the European one. The American one. It's the All American Birmingham Light Up, June 14, 2020 2300-0230z (7-11pm ET). It's bound to get toasty as we enter the summer months down here in the south. Not south in Europe, the south in the US. If you have any questions about this don't hesitate to ask.

Events / [05/31/20 2300-0300z] Goodbye, Mad Dog
« on: May 07, 2020, 11:44:52 am »

After over twenty years of service to Delta Air Lines, the Mad Dog's era is ending. The workhorse for America's second largest airline has served faithfully, and is moving on. On May 31, from 2300-0300z (7-11pm ET), ZTL will be celebrating its career by staffing up Delta's home, Atlanta. Join us in anything you'd like, but of course, a member of the MD80 family is encouraged.

Shane I just want to say that the avsim scenery is messed up. I used the scenery and it puts runway 10/28 on SG.

Fixed I think. Thanks.

Default P3D and FSX scenery does not have runway 10/28 at Atlanta. If you are using one of these simulators, please utilize either freeware or payware Atlanta options. Payware is available by way of Imaginesim.

Freeware: https://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=195841 (Requires avsim account)
Freeware: https://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/files/2178/fsx-scenery-atlanta-intl-airport/

Default X-Plane 11 scenery is up to date.

Join ZTL and KATL on April 18, 2020 from 2300-0300z (7-11pm ET) for a night in the heart of Georgia at the busiest airport in the world (real world that is). We'll be keeping it age appropriate and cracking open some cokes in the tower cab in honor of the Coca-Cola headquarters in Atlanta, and we encourage you to do the same. Bring any plane you got and grab a coke out of the fridge, it's gonna be a busy one!

Can I be seen in blue with the words "United" on the side of my plane, is that allowed?

Sorry, green planes only. No carbon dioxide allowed.

Events / [04/18/20 1800-2130z] Peaches in Peachtree
« on: March 01, 2020, 08:52:00 pm »

It's been asked for. It's been denied. Finally it's here. Peaches in Peachtree will happen, just in time for the Georgia peach season, on April 18, 2020 from 1800-2130z (2-5:30pm ET). This beautiful field sits just north east of its larger brother Atlanta, and for some reason it gets shunned by the pilots of VATSIM. So we're doing this. Get your lawn chairs out, dust off that blimp, get your Atlanta TAC ready, and load up at Peachtree (KPDK). It's bound to be a fun one. Your mother called; you need to eat more fruit.

Events / [07/17/20 2300-0300z] The City in the Forest FNO (KATL)
« on: February 25, 2020, 08:17:08 pm »

It's the ZTL FNO in the so-called "City in the Forest". At nearly 47% tree canopy, yep you guessed it, Atlanta (KATL). So on July 17, 2020 we'll be celebrating our eco-friendly airport by staffing it up for 4 hours (2300-0300z). Fill up the busiest airport in the world with your favorite flying materials, but make sure to look out the window and take in the sights of this beautiful city located in the heart of the Southern United States. And if you don't get the tree thing, I swear it's real, check out the website: https://cityintheforest.org/

Events / [03/15/20 2201-0100z] Be Seen in Green KGSP & KGSO
« on: February 16, 2020, 03:02:58 pm »

It's St. Patrick's Day across the world and ZTL likes to celebrate in a unique way. In addition to putting on our green undergarments, green sweatshirts, and green baseball caps, we open up the two "green" fields in our ARTCC, GREENsboro KGSO, and GREENville KGSP. This year they'll be open 2201-0100z (6pm-9pm ET) on March 15, 2020. Please remember, as always, it's 8 hours bottle to throttle. We hope to see you there.

It's getting stormy in the south east, so we encourage pilots that don't like the cold to travel to Kingston, Jamaica. Likewise, those in Jamaica that don't like the heat can join us in the states at Atlanta (KATL). Join us on February 23, 2020 from 2200-0300z (5pm-10pm ET) as we move planes to and from MWCR, MKJS, and MKJP. Whether you like the heat or the storms, you'll find the answer by flying in this crossfire.
