VATUSA in partnership with VATSIM is proud to announce our partnership and participation at the inaugural FlightSimExpo!

The event will take place 09 June – 10 June 2018 at the Flamingo Las Vegas resort.

VATSIM is planning a massive display of online flying and air traffic control consisting of air traffic controllers from our United States and Scandinavia divisions, pilots from the Boston Virtual ARTCC pilot community, flight instructors from the VATSTAR ATO, and representatives from the VATTASTIC VATSIM situational display.

Additionally, VATUSA will be hosting a live Friday Night Ops (FNO) event from the convention floor the day before the conference on 08 June from 2300z – 0400z. All VATSIM members are welcome to join us for this evening of live controlling and flying! If you are going to participate in the Live FNO please register here -> https://goo.gl/S6VNCn

VATSIM encourages its members to join VATUSA and the many members of the VATSIM Board of Governors at this first annual event. In addition to the chance to meet with fellow VATSIMmers, you’ll find the biggest names in at-home flight simulation at FlightSimExpo: Aerosoft, FlyJSim, Infinite Flight, Laminar Research, NATCA, Navigraph, Orbx, PilotEdge, PILOT’S, Prepar3D, REX Game Studios, simMarket, and many more.

FlightSimExpo is a conference and tradeshow. Exhibitors will be displaying the latest in flight simulation and aviation technology in the 15,000 square foot exhibit hall. Attendees will be able to try out simulators and new products from developers across the industry, meet air traffic controllers, and learn about local non-profit aviation organizations. The event runs all day on Saturday, June 9 and until 3pm on Sunday, June 10.

Alongside more than 35 exhibitors, the conference will feature education-oriented seminars and presentations from a panel of Twitch streamers, PMDG’s Robert S. Randazzo, CFII Jason Miller, Captain John Cox, home cockpit builders Matt Ford and Tom Gauvin, and more! VATUSA controllers Derek Vento and Bradley Tice, who are also controllers in real life, are speaking about the benefits of VATSIM, and careers with the FAA, on Sunday afternoon.

There are great door prizes, discounts available on local attractions including flying a full-motion Boeing 737 NG simulator, and so much more!

Registration and discounted hotel rooms are available now at www.flightsimexpo.com.

Events / FNO Down Under
« on: May 01, 2018, 02:27:52 AM »

Ladies and Gentlemen, VATPAC and VATUSA are proud to present the latest VATUSA Friday Night Ops - Down Under!

We have something exciting, different and possibly even challenging in store for you. Did you know that VATPAC's airspace covers a large amount of the Pacific Islands? It even covers Papua New Guinea. This FNO, join us as VATPAC fully staffs Port Moresby - AYPY (The capital of P.N.G), Cairns - YBCS, Brisbane - YBBN and Hamilton Island - YBHM (Both in Queensland, Australia). This gives you the chance to experience Class C and D airports as well as the chance to experience some absolutely stunning scenery.

Kicking off at 2300, you can choose where to depart or arrive from, what to fly and how hard our controllers will work. We recommend flying regional sized aircraft to Hamilton Island as it regularly sees the Q400, 717 and 738's, however, the choice is yours.

Airports: AYPY , YBBN, YBCS , YBHM

Time: [11/05/18] 2300 - 0300Z | [12/05/18] 0900-1300 AEST

You can find a full pilot briefing available including charts, local procedures and scenery at our website https://fno.vatpac.org

The Control Room Floor / Re: Metering on the Network
« on: March 17, 2018, 09:32:20 AM »
When I’m working a tier 2/3 center for an event, I put tons of space between aircraft bound for the event field 25+ MIT if I can do it.

That way tier one has plenty of holes to fit in their originators and hopefully allows for a bit of extra space to allow for voice lag, slow pilots, and the fact that many of our controllers are not real world professionals.

This happens so far out that most pilots don’t even realize they’re being metered or delayed.

The biggest problem with trying to meter VATSIM pilots is the disconnect button. If they don’t like the idea that they’re gonna have to sit on the ground for a half hour  to fly from ORD-MSP, they’ll just disconnect and reconnect airborne. And that causes worse problems than had tower just let them go on a penalty vector where we then know he’s coming.

It's time to go outside and enjoy that Minnesota Spring... or not. Snow from the previous week dumped a foot of snow in the Twin Cities, and the clear skies makes it a gorgeous winter day in Minneapolis and St. Paul. MSP will be fully staffed for 5 straight hours, so come on down and enjoy that classic Minnesota not-Spring!

The Control Room Floor / Re: Shortcuts

To add to Krikor's response a controller amending a Place Bearing Distance waypoint direct to another fix well down line is also a means of coordination so outside of any constraints I can clear you halfway across the US and the coordination is accomplished by amending your flight plan, there are restrictions on how far you can be cleared this way which are described in a letter of agreement between two facilities. For example, I might be able to route you direct to MLP from my center, but no further direct. If a downline controller has an issue with this then they are able to reroute you.

News / VATSIM and VATUSA Announce Participation at FlightSimExpo 2018
« on: February 02, 2018, 06:39:54 AM »
VATUSA and VATSIM are proud to announce our participation at FlightSimExpo 2018 in Las Vegas, NV. We have been working with the team at FlightSimExpo for the past couple of months to determine how our community best fits within the conference.

VATSIM will be represented in a two tiered approach consisting of pilot communities and Air Traffic Control communities.  Multiple pilot communities such as VATSTAR, BVA, and various virtual airlines will represent all of the flying opportunities available on VATSIM. Pilot communities interested in exhibiting at Expo should email [email protected] for more information.

VATUSA will be representing all 22 of our ARTCCs on the convention floor with a live ATC display team comprised of our controllers from all over the country. This team will demonstrate the Air Traffic Control opportunities on our network and work to recruit new controllers for all facilities.

VATUSA controllers interested in participating on the VATUSA demonstration team should check the VATUSA forums within the next week for information on how to apply to be a part of the demonstration team.

All VATUSA members are encouraged to join us in Las Vegas, for what will surely be the largest meetup of the year!
