Events / FNO: Friday in Cowtown
« on: January 23, 2018, 05:17:04 PM »

On February 23rd at 23:59z (16:59 local), join the Edmonton FIR for Friday in Cowtown! Fly into or out of Calgary International Airport (CYYC) and celebrate the western culture that has earned the city the nickname of Cowtown!

*Important Info*
Calgary International Airport finished construction of a new, 14,000 ft runway in 2014, the longest runway in Canada. Default FSX and P3D do not include this new runway. We HIGHLY recommend you either install scenery (http://secure.simmarket.com/fsimstudios-calgary-international-airport-cyyc-fsx-p3d.phtml) or simply update the AFCAD files (https://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/files/11313/afcad-file-for-cyyc/).

General Discussion / Re: Discussion: ATC Timetable
« on: December 14, 2017, 01:40:58 PM »
I'm not a fan. I understand that it's frustrating for the pilots to see ATC online, load up, get clearance and then be given to unicom for departure.

Here's my issue. While a booking system seems nice in theory, I doubt you would get the actual participation you're looking for. We already set commitments for staffing times during events, and we have a hard enough time getting people to follow through on their commitments on those. Making everyone make a "non-binding" booking would add another commitment that people could back out on by either not showing up at all or closing early.

It's a lose-lose situation in my opinion. We can say "non-binding" until we're blue in the face to both pilots and controllers. The fact of the matter is that no matter how "non-binding" the booking is pilots are going to be miffed if a controller doesn't follow through on his booking or closes early, and controllers are going to look at as an obligation.

As an aside, it seems like many of these complaints are coming from newer CIDs. Maybe it's just me, but when I see a "stale ATC (Greater than 1 hour) online," I'll usually ask how much longer they'll be on, but I also don't mind flying on unicom if I have to. The reward of seeing 1 other airplane knowing that that's a person sharing my hobby is worth giving up a whole offline airport full of AI.

So are other ARTCCs invited to setup a booth and exhibit their facilities or is this another exclusive ZBW only event?

VATUSA is planning on attending. We are looking forward to participating and exhibiting all of our great ATC Facilities.

Events / Re: WorldFlight 2017
« on: November 11, 2017, 01:38:42 AM »
Worldflight is now in the last leg and will be landing soon. The teams did very well donation wise this year and while they are the ones that are raising the money, you all made a difference by staffing your sectors and providing ATC service in support of their cause!

I am extremely grateful for all of you who donated your time and made real life sacrifices to help out with staffing during the odd hours that worldflight traversed our airspace. We made it through the whole event with our own controllers and the worldflight controllers were left twiddling their thumbs!

I am impressed by how many of you came out of the woodwork to support Worldflight and outside of a couple minor hiccups we were able to move the traffic expeditiously and safely though our skies, receiving praise from the pilots.

Thank you again for your support!
