General Discussion / Re: VATUSA sponsored event (1 JUL 22)
« on: July 05, 2022, 02:22:31 PM »
it was an announced VATUSA sponsored event.

What was the VATUSA sponsored event? The Open Mic Night FNO? If that's the case, then you have misunderstood the Open Mic Night. OMN is an opportunity for all of VATUSA to staff up when they can. ZNY does not schedule anything for OMN but encourage controllers to connect. We had no-one prepared to staff PHL, but had people show up when they saw a ton of arrivals to PHL. Had it been the other way, you'd probably barely had a CTR controller if I'm honest.

I agree with everyone else in this thread though that if you have a problem with ZMA in this, a forum is not the place to take up your complaints about it. You reach out to ZMA, and if they don't respond to you, you email the VATUSA Events Coordinator.

and ZNY is going to Herald about how great this single airport fno was and how it went perfectly.

Please, Skylar, show me where you have seen any ZNY staff member, or controller saying that. I have not had a single one so far.

Did you even read the post you’re linking to? He’s not saying it went perfectly, but under the circumstances was a success. I’ll say two things:
1. We - the senior staff of ZNY have been talking about the event since it happened, and all agree that 260 arrivals combined with a network that was a disaster, moved the bar for a successful or great event significantly higher and we did not reach it.
2. We been monitoring the VATSIM forums, Discord, VATUSA Forums, Reddit, Twitter and Facebook pages, as well as our own normal ways of feedback after the event for pilot feedback, and this thread here is one of the extremely few pieces of bad feedback we’ve received about the event from pilots. In fact, our more publicly known controllers have all been receiving messages privately in the dozens from pilots, saying they liked the event.

As our EC stated in the briefs prior to the event, we did this to test a theory that single-field FNOs were possible to pull off again (with the support from VATUSA, I might add.) And we pretty clearly have the numbers and data to make a conclusion on this.

I’m leaving this post as as my last public comment on this thread though. If anyone has concerns, feedback or want to talk about this, feel free to contact me directly at any time in the dozens of ways that can be done, Discord, Email, PM, Slack or get my phone number from any ZNY staff member, or take this up with VATUSA7 or 15.

Noah, please reference Alex's post above. This was coordinated with ZBW and ZDC and in agreement with them, with nothing being decided prior to everyone agreeing.

The Control Room Floor / Re: Pilot Expectations, cont...
« on: July 10, 2021, 08:13:26 AM »
This brings up another good idea. Pursuant to the Pilot Deviation idea above, one thing that the VATUSA brass could also implement is a "suspension" (again, lack of a better word) of an offending pilot's use of the network pending a slight variation of an Operation Raincheck

Unfortunately, this is not something VATUSA could do. VATUSA does not have the power to suspend users, only a SUP or DCRM can do so with the current Code of Conduct and CoR in place. From what I've been seeing from the BoG and the VATSIM meeting minutes, they are in no rush to change that policy.

General Discussion / Re: Which UNICOM Frequency to Use
« on: May 28, 2021, 04:13:36 PM »
There are a few exceptions to 122.8 being used as the sole UNICOM frequency, one is in Brazil, where a different UNICOM frequency is used for certain reasons.
