vZDC Washington ARTCC Presents the
Cherry Blossom Festival (ft. KDCA)

Join the Virtual Washington ARTCC controllers as we make our way back to Washington National Airport for the Cherry Blossom Fly-In on March 30rd. This annual gathering coincides with the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington DC, taking place between March and April. During this period, the cherry blossoms along the National Mall are in full bloom, attracting tourists from across the country who come to enjoy the stunning scenery and festival events.

These iconic trees have a history dating back to 1912 when Tokyo Mayor Yukio Ozaki generously donated them to the city of Washington DC as a symbol of friendship. Planted around the tidal basin off the National Mall, a festival celebrating these trees began in 1934.

Washington National Airport (KDCA) stands out as the premier domestic airport for both commuters and tourists heading to the Washington Metro Area. Located just 3 miles south of the National Mall, the airport offers a range of scenic and distinctive approaches/departures for arriving or departing aircraft. With a diverse selection of North American flights, including regional and transcontinental routes, there's a flight for everyone. We eagerly anticipate your participation and look forward to welcoming you to the event.

The event is a week away. We are also opening up IAD and BWI as arrival fields or diversion fields. Please plan extra fuel and pack your patience as the event will be busy and we MIGHT go into holding. Be patience and nice with the controllers might go a long way. vZDC is looking forward to hosting traffic into DCA to enjoy the Cherry Blossom Washington DC offers.

If you're flying into BWI, please have up-to-date scenery as default MSFS Asobo doesn't have rwy 33L.

If you're flying into IAD, please have the latest AIRAC as we're transitioning into new STAR. If you're unable to comply with the new STAR or don't have it, please advise the Potomac Controller on initial contact.

Thank you
