On Sunday, March 18th, 2018, the staff of VATSIM's Virtual Los Angeles ARTCC (aka vZLA) hosted a question-and-answer session between pilots (namely VATSTAR Students) and controllers (namely the VATSIM ZLA Controller staff), focusing mostly on general aviation IFR and VFR flight in the virtual LA ARTCC airspace. ZLA organized a very comprehensive and informative presentation to include an overview of the ZLA airspace, an overview of the SoCal TRACON airspace, some pilot and controller etiquette on VATSIM and within ZLA, a focus on VFR flight in the Los Angeles area, and a focus on VFR flight within the San Diego area. After the Q&A they then staffed up the airspace for two hours (calling the event "SoCal Sunday") to let us practice the procedures and tips we had just learned.
VATSTAR thanks ZLA Air Traffic Manager Nick Christopher for reaching out to us to suggest and spearhead this event -- and the wonderfully friendly and knowledgeable staff of Controllers who meticulously organized and delivered their presentations, patiently answered our questions, then even more patiently let us get online and mess up that which we had just discussed. :-)
