ILS approaches to non-towered fields?
« on: January 23, 2016, 12:03:01 AM »
Hi guys -- I'm putting together some practice flight recommendations, and for one of them I am looking for non-towered fields that contain at least one ILS approach.  I know they're relatively rare but there are a few out there.  In particular I would like some recommendations for such animals within the ZJX, ZOB, and ZDV areas if possible.  Thanks for the help!

Update: I found KJZI and KTBR in Jacksonville area -- still looking for some good examples in Cleveland and Denver areas, if anyone can help.  Thanks again!

Not in your target area...but Alaska has quite a few of these approaches. Here is ILS15 into Cold Bay (PACD) https://skyvector.com/files/tpp/1601/pdf/01241ILD15.PDF. Also the ILSY 11 into Ketchikan (PAKT) https://skyvector.com/files/tpp/1601/pdf/06053ILDY11.PDF Several others throughout the Alaska area, but these are some common ones that AK pilots fly.

Rifle (KRIL) has an ILS in ZDV. I love that airport.

For ZDV, take a look at KFNL, KGXY, KLBF, KRIL, KDRO, KHDN, KMTJ, and KGUC. There may be more but those are the ones I've seen traffic at. For practice flights, I'd recommend using the first two since they're under Denver Approach so they'll have ATC coverage more often than the others.

Fantastic.  Thanks so much.  If anyone has some tips for similar situations in ZOB, I appreciate it!

KGXY: wow, a non-towered field with a 10,000ft runway?  Geeze!  Well I guess when your field elevation is 4700 feet, even your GA planes need a little extra takeoff roll, lol...

So do MTJ and HDN. Most of the other fields I listed have runways that are almost as long but they also see large jets during the ski season.

For Cleveland I found KJHW and KHYX.  So, I have everything I need now.  Thanks!

In case you might want any in ZMA (unless you have some already)...
KTNT (ILS/LOC 9) [Miami TRACON]
KVDF (ILS/LOC 23) [Tampa TRACON]
F45 (ILS/LOC 8R) [Palm Beach TRACON]

In fact I am already planning to use KTNT and F45.  Thanks, Josh!  -R.

Rob,

In ZOB's airspace, KOZW has an ILS approach if you wanted to check out an additional one.
