Jacksonville is seeking mentors to assist with developing our next generation of controllers! We're looking for both internal and external candidates to fill the role. External candidates will need to be certified up to major tower prior to assuming the role.

Duties/responsibilities of the Mentor Position:
  • Maintaining an online presence within the facility and on the VATSIM network.
  • Ensuring students perform to VATUSA and ZJX's training standards.
  • Conducting training sessions with controllers.
  • Recommending controllers for OTS exams.
  • All other responsibilities which help to accomplish the mission, goals, and vision of ZJX.

Required Qualifications:
  • Have held a Student 2 (S2) rating for at least 90 days prior to appointment.
  • Have a strong knowledge of the United States ATC system, VATSIM ATC system, and FAA Order 7110.65.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Have availability to conduct training sessions with students.
  • Possess a high degree of energy and commitment appropriate to the requirements of the position.
  • Have no significant disciplinary record.
  • Have no history of unprofessional behavior.
  • Be in good standing on the VATSIM network.
  • Be a home controller at the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • C1 rating or higher.
  • Instructor/Mentor experience with ZJX or other VATUSA ARTCC.
  • Real world aviation background.
  • Good availability to work with multiple students in different time zones.
  • Ability to dedicate three or more hours to training per month.
