Please join me in welcoming Maddox Mitchell to the ZAU TA position! Maddox has been an extremely active member of the training staff and ARTCC staff thus far, and I can't wait to see the direction the team goes in with him!

I would also like to thank Joe N for his time as TA for the last 9 months. Our training team was entirely revamped, and we owe it to him for leaving a great product for Maddox to pick up!

Chicago ARTCC Training Administrator Vacancy Announcement

Position: Training Administrator
Location: Chicago ARTCC (ZAU)
Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per week+, and required quarterly controller hours to maintain facility membership
Supervisor: Chicago ARTCC Air Traffic Manager
Application Deadline: Open until filled.

Main Responsibilities:

Maintaining an online presence within the facility and on the VATSIM network.
Attending staff meetings.
Organizing and attending training staff meetings.
Maintaining, updating and managing the training program and related materials.
Duties defined in the vZAU 3120.4.
Developing, updating and maintaining sweatbox files.
Completing special projects as assigned by the ATM.
All other responsibilities which help to accomplish the mission, goals and vision of ZAU.


Requirements:

Hold a Controller 1 (C1) or above.
Have no significant disciplinary record.
Have no history of unprofessional behavior.
Be an active member of the network in good standing on the VATSIM network.
Have a strong knowledge of the United States ATC system, VATSIM ATC system, and FAA JO 7110.65.
Hold no other staff position on any competing networks.
Be a ZAU home controller at the time of appointment (or willing to transfer upon selection).


Preferred Qualifications:

Instructor 1 (I1) Rating.
Familiarity with the Chicago ARTCC.
Understanding of the ZAU training program.
Prior staff experience.
Prior teaching/education experience.

News / All the New Staff at ZAU!

I probably should have posted some of these earlier, sorry to Zak especially!

vZAU has finally selected all of its staff members, and I'd like to take a small moment to recognize all of the new changes!

Zak Husk has been named the DATM of ZAU. He brings extensive real world knowledge and a lot of experience on the network. He most recently served as the ZAU Events Coordinator.

Joe Nyquist has been appointed as the TA of ZAU. He, too, brings real world experience and a lot of aviation knowledge. Up till now, he served as the FE and an extremely active instructor for the ARTCC.

Kevin Huang has been selected as the EC of ZAU. He most recently was the AEC working alongside Zak, and he has already handled an FNO in his new role!

Ryan Savara has been chosen as the newest FE of ZAU. He has been the AFE for the last few months and is also an active instructor for ZAU!

Dylan Olson has been chosen by Kevin as the AEC of ZAU. Dylan brings a lot of great ideas to the table and is also a member of the training team!

Brian Steinlauf has been selected as the new AFE of ZAU. Brian has a lot of experience with real world documentation as well as an eagerness to create sweatbox files!

Congratulations to all of you on your new roles, and I am excited to work with everyone!

Assisting the ATM in the management of ZAU.
Hiring and managing the Junior Staff (EC, FE, WM) positions, with the approval of the ATM.
Overseeing daily ARTCC operations.
Maintaining the ARTCC roster.
Coordinating ARTCC staff on projects.
Fulfilling ATM responsibilities in the ATM’s absence.
Completing special projects as assigned by the ATM.
All other responsibilities which help to accomplish the mission, goals, and vision of ZAU.


Requirements:

Hold a Student 3 (S3) or above with the intention of gaining the Controller 1 (C1) rating 60 days after appointment.
Have no significant disciplinary record.

Chicago ARTCC (vZAU)

The Chicago ARTCC (vZAU) is currently seeking applications for Facility Engineer (FE) who will assist the Air Traffic Manager in creating/updating sector files, SOPs, LOAs, and other documents at the VATSIM Chicago ARTCC (vZAU).

Key Accountabilities:

Maintains and updates sector files, SOP's LOA's and other facility documents.
Works with VATUSA and other ARTCC's to approve LOAs and SOPs.

Capable of working well in a team-oriented environment

Chicago ARTCC is looking for an Events Coordinator!

Job Description:
The Events Coordinator is responsible for creating, scheduling and execution of ZAU events.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Reports to the DATM.
- Lead the events team to provide support for ZAU event operations.
- Identifies and develops events to generate traffic and promote the ARTCC.
- Implements and oversees approved events.
- Work closely with the training department to prepare our members for event positions.
- Coordinates with neighboring ARTCC to arrange support for ZAU hosted events and neighboring events.
- Coordinates with VATUSA Command Center for event planning, traffic expectations, event execution, and debrief.
- Maintains and cultivates a relationship with Virtual Airlines and other similar organizations and their events.
- Develops and distributes marketing materials to promote events and the ARTCC.

Minimum Requirements:
- Must hold S2+ Rating.
- Must be an active VATSIM controller.
- Must have no disciplinary record with VATSIM, VATUSA, or ZAU ARTCC.
- Must be a ZAU home controller at the time of appointment.
- The ability to create event banners and market them as needed.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills as this is a client-facing position.

Desired Qualifications:
- S3+ Rating preferred
- Active in the ZAU community
- Knowledge of the ZAU airspace
- Experience/talent in graphic design, typography, etc.
- Experience with event planning of any type
- Exceptional leadership skills

3. One Mock Event Idea (May be an ORD FNO or another event) which shall include, at minimum:

Chicago ARTCC (vZAU)

The Chicago ARTCC (vZAU) is currently seeking applications for Webmaster (WM).

Duties:
Reports to the ATM regarding website matters.
Maintain an active online presence on the website, discord, email, and network.
Manages and oversees the ARTCCs data services including web content and delivery, web services, email systems, data storage systems, etc.
Must respond quickly to website and data system needs.
Develops and implements policies and procedures for the operation and maintenance of the ARTCC web and data systems.
Attends staff meetings as called by the ATM.
Any other duty assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
Must be an active member of the network in good standing.
Be a member of ZAU, or willing to transfer upon selection.
Must be proficient with modern web programming languages and techniques, including Linux, MySQL, and PHP.. some Golang experience useful
Must be able to work in a team environment.
Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.

Highly Desired Skills:
Have previous staff experience in a VATSIM ATC facility or virtual airline.
Previous VATUSA Webteam/personal web project experience.
Experience managing a small group of people.
