Virtual Airlines / Virtual US Airways, Carry the flag with US
« Last post by Andres Nunez on March 20, 2024, 02:26:00 PM »

Hello everybody, I'm Andres founder and CEO of Virtual US Airways.

We launched operations a little over a month ago and are currently recruiting members for our VA. If you have noticed the increase in Cactus popping up everywhere that's US carrying the flag again. We aim to model our operations on the old US Airways before the American merger and add the twist of "what if?" US Airways had not merged. We pride ourselves in being what we refer to as a "Heritage" airline embracing the past that made up US Airways but keeping our foot in the present and the future.

We have a large domestic route network catering to short commuter and regional flights, as well as medium range and long haul flights. Our long hauls take you to Europe, South America and the Pacific.

Our fleet includes the classics such as the Q400, B727 and B757 and have also added the A350 recently in a move the real world US Airways planned and never completed.

We provide a rank based system to unlock through hours flying, awards and type ratings are provided too.

VATSIM members who join get 100% transfer on hours to fast track their promotion in the VA.

Open Positions
Pilots - we can never have enough
Webmaster - someone to help develop and build our front end website
Hub Managers - as we expand we will need more hub managers.

Why you should Join US?
Our friendly staff has a range of expertise in flight sim and online flying boasting over 15,000 combined hours of online flying or ATC service. You won't get lost in the jumble of pilots, we make it our job to know you so you can know US. The strength of any VA it's in the corps of pilots who make it up.

Many people say "US Airways died years ago, there's no point in flying that callsign." but I always say "The cactus is a resilient plant, and always survives"

Come and give US a try, carry the flag with US, and be a part of US

Have you made a VATSIM account, but feel intimidated every time you try to speak on the frequency? Or have you yet to make an account in fear that you haven't got what it takes yet? Then this is the event for you!

At busy airports, or events, it can be a little tricky to learn and get used to the pace. To help overcome that VATSIM created the First Wings events, dedicated to helping pilots get used to the phraseology, the procedures, and what is expected of them.

For this edition, we will be flying in North America. On Sunday 9th June, American controllers are staffing Indianapolis, IN (KIND) and Birmingham, AL (KBHM), with departures from either airport starting at 20 UTC and ending at 23 UTC.

To ensure a fun and smooth afternoon for pilots and controllers alike slots are required! Pilots without a booked flight can, and will, be delayed.

Both before and during the event experienced and patient controllers and pilots will be on the VATSIM Discord to help answer any questions you have. You may join the discord through https://community.vatsim.net/. If you do not use Discord, VATSIM Supervisors will be on hand during the events, and can at any time be reached via a .wallop.

First Wings events are now held on a regular basis, with one edition occurring at the beginning of each month. To allow everyone to participate, regardless of their timezone, the location of the event rotates every month, passing through all corners of the World.

I'm happy to announce that the next Deputy Air Traffic Manager of Indy Center will be Krikor Hajian. Members will recognize Krikor from the Facility Directives Committee, where he has contributed significantly to our procedures’ rewrite and maintenance. While he was not a home controller, he has been a very active community member and controller. Originally from Boston, Krikor now lives in the D.C. metro area and works as an airline pilot.

As DATM, Krikor will oversee daily air traffic operations, lead special projects, and administer the controller roster. Welcome to Indy Center!

Hopefully we will see some participation on the little quiz that I wrote in the first post. Had some participants over on the Facebook page and already saw some people learn something!
