News / ZLC and ZDV Have New ATMs!!
« Last post by Brandon Wening on October 16, 2025, 10:34:01 AM »
Over two years ago, we began discussions on merging the ZDV and ZLC staff teams to form one combined staff to serve both facilities. While variations of this have been done throughout our division's history, we have never quite done it like this. After years of hard work, dedication from the facilities' members, and exemplary leadership from the combined senior staff, I am excited to announce that we have completed the experiment and are fully separating the ZDV and ZLC staff teams with the appointment of two new ATMs!

Please join me in welcoming Cameron Negrete as the new ZLC ATM! Cameron has been a long-time member of VATSIM and has served as an Instructor, ZLC DATM, ZLC FE, and ZMP TA! Cameron looks to build on the current facility momentum and continue improving documentation, assisting students work their way up the controller ratings, further strengthen neighboring facility relationships, and develop an exciting events program for all who fly or control to enjoy! I am confident that ZLC will continue to grow under Cameron's leadership, and I hope all who are interested take part in the new and exciting ideas Cameron will bring to his new role. Congratulations, Cameron!

Please also join me in congratulating the new ATM for the Denver ARTCC, Evan McSweeny! Evan has been influential in the recent success of both ZDV and ZLC, serving as the combined DATM for two years! Evan is committed to ensuring the Denver community is active, vibrant, and fun for all in the facility. With plans to further update facility resources, provide members with opportunities to volunteer around the facility, and continue working with the events and training teams to continue innovating, the Denver ARTCC is destined for great things under Evan's leadership. Congratulations, Evan!

Finally, I'd like to thank the outgoing ZLC/ZDV ATM, Harry Linsenmayer. If you have been on the network long enough, chances are you know who Harry is and have interacted with him in some way. Harry has served in almost every facility staff position during his time in ZJX, HCF, ZLC, and ZDV. Harry's commitment to our organization and members was unwavering, and the impact he has had on both is grand. Harry is stepping back to continue developing his real-world aviation career, and we wish him nothing but the best. Thank you, Harry, for all you have done for the division!

Events / [10/26/2025] Trick or Bay [TRACON]
« Last post by Zhenyu Mao on October 11, 2025, 05:50:23 PM »

Calling all pilots and controllers alike, join us on this evening on a scary holloween night. We invite you to fly all planes big and small, but watch out you might be tricked and not land at all. File your flight to SJC, OAK or even SFO if you wish, but be warned you may get vectored off to another airport at the controllers' bliss. We encourage you to fly your 73 and 74 alike, as PAO, which has a 2500 foot runway, might bring a haunted end to your night, or perhaps HWD might be more your flavor? Enjoy this fun evening that is sure to fright, hopefully your plane survives this holloween fright.

Why are we calling it Trick or Bay (Tracon)?  Back in 1967, Bay Tracon (O90) was created and served as the approach control facility for the Bay Area airports, this included the consolidation of  3 facilities,  they were San Francisco, Oakland and NAS Moffett approach controls. The original Bay TRACON opened with eight RADAR positions providing air traffic service to the entire Bay Area. Included were services to San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, NAS Alameda, NAS Moffett, Crissy AAF, Hayward, Palo Alto, Reid Hillview, San Carlos, Half Moon Bay, Livermore, South County, Fremont and Skysailing airports.

For this event, ZOA is recognizing this amazing part of history by simulating these very sectors that started the foundation of what this complicated airspace has now become to be.  So this will be great fun for both sides of the scope!!!

How It'll Work:
Step 1:Pilots will file a flight plan to SJC, OAK or SFO.
Step 2:Pilots willing to be diverted to an airport of ATCs choosing, that was originally part of O90s airspace, will add the words "Trick or BAY" to their remarks in their flight plan. (Those without these remarks will be assume intending to land at their filled destination with no reroutes)
Step 3:Have Fun and land your planes!

Airports: SFO, OAK, SJC
Date/Time: October 26, 4-8pm PT
Date/Time (zulu): October 26, 2300z - October 27, 0300z

News / ZAU has a new Webmaster!
« Last post by Zakery Husk on October 09, 2025, 11:35:15 PM »
Please join me in welcoming Ryan Savara as ZAU's new webmaster! Ryan has been in several roles in the facility over the years, most recently as the FE, extending all the way back to 2017 when he was appointed the EC. The only two positions he hasn't held is TA and ATM! He shares the love of this facility with all of us and is excited to get started on some projects we have for him once he's familiarized with the tech stack.

I'd also like to say thank you to the outgoing WM, Tim Barker, for his dedication over the last few years, and getting this website set up with Matthew Campbell and maintaining it for our daily use.  We wish you luck in your future endeavors, and don't work too hard.
